He says all the records of saddle numbers were lost in a fire before 1950 so we know for sure this saddle was built before then. In the late 1800s Visalia California became a hub for the finer artisans from Mexico and Southern California of cowboy hardware, spurs, and bits and, of course, saddles. Visalia Stock Saddle Company and this saddle are a true piece of America 's Wild West story as it emerged in the great southwest. Walker was one the two original owners of this company purchased from a saddle maker of Mexican decent, Juan Martarales in 1870.
